Memory Garden 15 - Thompson Memorial
Thompson Memorial Cemetery, New Hope Pa.
We came upon this beautiful cemetery quite by accident. We went to pick up an antique table and took a wrong turn coming home. A side road through New Hope was never a bad thing. We passed this graveyard and church and decided to turn around. I am so glad we did.
The grounds are immaculate! So very well maintained and care for.
IT is still active as well. About 9 or 10 acres and about 1500 current graves. A creek runs through the grounds, however, upon our visit, it was dry with a tree fallen over it at one spot.
I was taken by the truly unique stones towards the back of the grounds - more boulders really, with artful arrangements.
As happens so often in these lovely places I tend to walk where I feel I am called. My husband sat in the car this trip, not feeling well with a headache. As I wandered I didn't feel alone at all. In fact, there was a distinct feeling of walking with others by my side and it was very comforting. Towards the front of the yard to the far right I walked towards the fence and notice the watchers there - three large deer. They were in an adjoining yard with a small, older, white-washed barn. They stopped and looked directly at me never looking away or moving.
The setting of this cemetery was what I could best call idyllic. You could see there is a real effort to maintain not just the grounds but the stones themselves. It was refreshing to see.
I was thrilled to find a "White Bronze" marker. I've noticed a pattern lately that most of these that I find are for children. This one was no exception, little Laura is "sweetly sleeping".
I sat upon the rise at the top end of the cemetery in the grass for a few moments and thanked those there for sharing their resting place with me, I told them how truly beautiful a place it is and wished them to rest on.
