Memory Garden 3 - Mount Bethel Baptist Cemetery
Mount Bethel Baptist Meeting House Cemetery, Warren, NJ
From high atop a mountain, these graves near touch the sky.
A treasure trove of multi-generational history. Families laid in rest, one beside the next, spanning the decades, and centuries.
Rev. Abner Sutton is said to be the first buried on this ground, after the meeting house was disassembled and moved to this spot from the previous spot atop Mount Bethel Road. An old stone wall borders two sides, and a service cuts a ribbon through the grounds further down the hill, almost creating a space between the older and newer sections.
A very large monument to Dr. Peter Zeglio stands in the newer section, commanding all take notice, his face forever watching over the town he cared for so well in life.
You'll find a wealth of local names here, Coddington, Van Fleet, Stites, Smalley. A number of heros dot this landscape, from all wars, from all walks.
